On April 1st Senator Rockefeller of WV introduced bill S.773, also known as the Cyber Security Act Of 2009. This bill would allow the President to call a cyber security emergency and give the President control of public networks and privet networks.
After reading the bill I am not concerned about this bill. The only reference that I saw to give the President control of these networks was in Sec 18. (2) . Which states "(2) may declare a cybersecurity emergency and order the limitation or shutdown of Internet traffic to and from any compromised Federal Government or United States critical infrastructure information system or network;". That part of the bill has set the internet on fire http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10320096-38.html , http://www.dvorak.org/blog/2009/08/28/bill-would-give-president-emergency-control-of-internet/ . This bill is still in it's first version and I can see Sec 18. (2) being edited before it gets voted on. There is also a Scholarship for students "in their pursuit of undergraduate or graduate degrees in the cybersecurity field" in Sec 12.

Senator Ted Kennedy dead at the age of 77, Successor to Be Chosen by Special Election.
Senator Ted Kennedy died at the age of 77 after around a year of battling brain cancer. Kennedy's successor will be chosen by a special election. Unlike most states, Massachusetts law requires a special election no sooner than 145 days and no later than 160 days. That law was passed in 2004 when Senator John Kerry was running for President and it was thought that then Governor Mitt Romney would install a Republican into the empty Senate seat if Kerry won the Presidency.
Last week Senator Ted Kennedy asked Massachusetts lawmakers to change the law to give the Governor of the State the power again to chose a Senator in case of a empty Senate seat. Thankfully that attempt has failed, I believe that in case of a empty Senate seat it should be in the hands of the People not the Governor.

Video of the day: Santa Cruz City Council Testimony 5/13/08 (Is this women on drugs?)
Sure a Santa Cruz City Council meeting does seem boring but this lady makes it interesting.
Obama's CIO Vivek Kundra doesn't know what he's talking abou
Vivek Kundra the CIO for the Obama administration was at a FCC Broadband subcommittee meeting when he gave that speech about broadband. I had no idea what he was talking about the first time and third time I listened to the speech. Finally on the fourth listen around I got it, he was trying to say how we could make Government websites easier to use. At least that's what I've translated it to. For one thing making Government websites easier to use is impossible. I've never in my 17 years of living have gone to a Government website that was user friendly but he does make a good point about how we need to.
Then he goes onto talking about Second Life and the computer from Star Trek. How do they fit in? They don't , Second Life is a computer video game. The computer from Star Trek is nothing compared to the computers of today. Also if my memory serves me correct the computer from Star Trek never really gave out any answers it just obeyed simple commands. He also goes on about interacting with applications with video and such instead of COLBOL and binary. When was the last time you interacted with a application where you had to know COBOL or binary? I know I've never had to interact with any application where I needed to know COBOL or binary.
Maybe Vivek Kundra was nervous, all I know is that Obama should of chosen a CIO with more experience. Then again Obama doesn't have that much experience either. Just as a side note Vivek's speech reminds me of this lady talking at a Santa Cruz City Council Testimony.
T-Mobile to charge for paper billing.
"Beginning with August bills, current T-Mobile customers will receive notification that provides them with instructions on how to "opt out" of the paper bill charge by receiving a paperless, electronic bill. If customers do not sign up for paperless billing, then those receiving “summary" paper bills will begin to see a charge of $1.50 on their bills after September 12."http://www.phonescoop.com/news/discuss.php?fm=m&ff=4680&fi=2128508
I think T-Mobile is getting a nice tax break for pushing the paperless billing onto it's customers. Obviously this is what Nancy Pelosi wants to do, try to push this whole green movement down our throats by having companies do this stuff.

Obama is 52?
According to Obama's Myspace page the Commander in Chief is 52 years old. When he is supposedly 48. Obama was born on August 4, 1961 in Hawaii but this would mean that he was born in 1957. Could this mean that Obama has been lying about his age and possibly his place of birth this whole time. Personally I say no, I believe that Obama is a legal US born resident and his age in fact 48. There is no way that he could be President if he did. This whole age thing is either just a Myspace server glitch, someone that had authorization to the Obama account made a mistake. I doubt that it was a hacker because if it was everything would have been fixed by now and you would have been seeing this story running 24/7 on MSNBC.

Mexico demcriminalizes small amounts of drug possession
"MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexico decriminalized small amounts of marijuana, cocaine and heroin on Friday—a move that prosecutors say makes sense even in the midst of the government's grueling battle against drug traffickers."
Mexico is corrupt anyway, so it's no surprise that it's happening there. Some bloggers are hoping that it happens in the USA.
"Will the US be next? I hope so. Drugs are bad, but like alcohol and cigarettes, they shouldn’t be regulated by the government." Guilherme Cherman
I look at some of Cherman's blog posting and he (or she) sounds like a drug supporter so there no shock to me that's coming from him.
For one the US will not be next nor will it ever. If it the US does there will be a huge up roar throughout the Country. Also that's all we need are more brain dead people in this nation. Drugs are one of those things that lead to another crime. (http://www.whitehousedrugpolicy.gov/publications/factsht/crime/index.html )

CNBC can't seem to get it's facts right.
While watching a video of a interview with Chick-fil-a CEO Dan Cathy on CNBC's website, I noticed something. It said that Chick-fil-a offers no item above 500 calories.
I know for a fact that is wrong, so I decided to head down to Chick-fil-a website to look at the nutrition info. Here is what I found: Peach Milkshake: 850 calories
Strawberry Milkshake 760 calories
Vanilla Milkshake 660 calories
Sausage Biscuit 590 calories

Woman charged with new cyber bullying law

According to Maximum PC a women in Missouri is being the first to get charged with the states new cyber bullying law. The law was passed after a 13 year old in the state committed suicide due to cyber bullying. (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,315684,00.html)
Anyway 40-year-old Elizabeth Thrasher(shown on right) got upset with her ex husband's girl friend and somehow the girl friend's 17 year old daughter got in the mix of things. That's when Elizabeth posted a fake Craigslist personal ad that included stuff like the girls photo, phone number and email.
Elizabeth Thrasher could face up to 4 years in jail $5,000 fine. I hope that she doesn't get that harsh of a punishment, I would prefer to see the women pay the fine and have to do some community service.
Obviously this women didn't try hard enough to hide her self like by using proxies.

Update on Is the Obama administration in violation of the Can the Spam act?

As it turns out the Obama administration was not spamming people nor were the in violation of the Can the Spam Act. The Obama administration says it was third parties that signed up people to the White House email newsletter, you know like Acorn, your Neighbor ect.
Also there were opt-out links at the bottom of the emails.
The White House has also announced that it will be sending out confirmation emails when someone signs up for their email newsletter.

Cash For Cluckers is ending, better buy that car now!
That Cash For Clunkers program that gave you up to $4500 discount on a car that was more fuel efficient will be ending on Monday, August 24th. So you better buy that car if you wanted to get one.
Now the Cash For Clunkers program has not been with out issues. Like the privacy statement for car dealers claimed that the computer that the dealer is using, was property of the government. The has since changed. Also issues with car dealers not getting the checks in time. So far the Cash For Cluckers on the dealers end has been crappy. Could you imagine when the government tries to run a huge health care program bigger than medicare?

AT&T Broadband TV shutting down
Okay so the AT&T broadband tv which is just a re-branded version of mobitv will be shutting down. AT&T has been sending letters to it's subscribers saying that it will be shut down on September 1st.
This shutdown doesn't effect subscribers of the mobitv on the cell phone.
Hey at least as a small little goodbye gift AT&T didn't charge customers for the mouths of July and August.

Is the Obama administration in violation of the Can the Spam act?
As you may or may not know, some people are getting emails from the Obama administration about health care that never signed up for those emails. While that isn't in violation of the Can The Spam act here's what is. Sending those emails without a link to give people that are receiving those emails a option of opting out. I still have yet to see these emails in question that are being sent out by the Obama administration to see if they have a opt out link but could this mean that the Obama administration will be investigated by the ftc. Maybe but I really doubt it, if anything the emails probably do have a opt out link.
Even if they don't the most the Obama administration will get is a slap on the wrist.

Better stock up on Microsoft Word people!!!
Now I doubt that this is really going to have a effect since Microsoft will either screw the rules because they have money or just pay the fine and everything will be better.
But just today a Judge ruled that Microsoft was doing patent infringement over a patent that a company i4i Inc held that had to do with reading of XML.
So you may want to stock up on copies of Microsoft Word in case all goes for the worst. (Plus if it does, it'll have a great resell value!)

Health Care Bill
Okay so you know that health care bill that they are trying to push down our throats (Yet are failing to do so).
Well I was just thinking, my Grandfather was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year. The cancer was in a place were they could operate on it. My Grandparents are on Medicare and some other filler insurance.
Now if the health care bill had gone into effect when he was diagnosed with the pancreatic cancer, I am sure that he would have been denied coverage for that surgery or anything to help with treating the pancreatic cancer.
Here are my reason why:
1. To help fund this health care bill they are going to cut funding for medicare.
2. If my Grandparents would have gone onto the governments health care plan, he would have been denied due to age or because pancreatic cancer isn't worth fighting due to the survival rate but mainly due to his age.
Now how is my Grandfather today? He is doing extremely well and is 100% Cancer free. I wouldn't be able to say the same the health care bill was in effect.
So please Congress and Senate vote no on the Health Care Bill.

pokemoncrater.com taken by Nintendo?
Okay so if you didn't know about the website pokemoncrater.com, it was a browser based pokemon mmorpg. Around last year the person who ran the site decided to take it down due to the fact that he didn't have enough time to maintain it. Well now the way it looks Nintendo has sucked up the domain pokemoncrater.com.
Why? Simple, Nintendo probably doesn't want this domain to fall it the wrong hands (like for malware and such) and just uses it to direct to the Nintendo homepage.
Now if you look at the whois info I can confirm that it is in fact owned by Nintendo

Comcast now using a search page if you miss type a url.
Okay, So I just got a email saying "At Comcast, we’re constantly looking to deliver a better high-speed
Internet and online search experience. That’s why we’re introducing
Domain Helper to help you find the sites you want when you mistype a
Web site address in your Web browser.
You’ll notice this service when you mistype a Web site address, like
"http://www.comtcas.com " instead of "http://www.comcast.com ."
Instead of receiving an error page that the Web site does not exist, this
new service will provide you with a Web page of suggestions and links to
get you back on track quickly and help you find what you need faster."
So now if you type in a url that isn't around you'll get a annoying search page that looks like this
Now at least you have a chose to disable this url search forwarding, I know that I will be.
Update : You can disable it by going to https://dns-opt-out.comcast.net/ , you will need your cable modems MAC address to disable it.

Modern browsers breaking the internet?
Firefox 3.5 is great, it renders websites great and you'll really never notice it rendering any websites wrong and such but does it's new javascript engine render some javascript's wrong? In short Yes.
Just today I decided to play with a little easter egg that I have on my website (http://www.maryland157.co.nr) which displays unicorns when you enter the konami code. When I entered the konami code the unicorns were not popping up. So I decided to start up Internet Explorer 8, it did pop up the unicorns but it didn't display the unicorn correctly. Now I didn't start up Safari or any other internet browsers but the two market share leaders are not displaying or rendering pages right.
But I really see no reason to worry about this since major webmasters are going to keep their websites up to date to render correctly with current web browsers.
So for now I am going to take out this little easter egg but hey the less clutter the better.
